6 Food Items That You Must Try In Sydney

If you are visiting Sydney or have recently moved to the city, you might be wondering which food items are the most popular in the area. Generally, there is a great variety of food that can be found in Sydney each of which is unique and delicious.

What’s your usual food order at Sydney, Australia?

From eating meat that you won’t find anywhere in the world, to desserts that melt inside the mouth, Australia is a heaven for food lovers, and Sydney is its rightful capital.

Let’s look at the most famous food items that you must try if you’re in the city.

Chicken Parmigiana

A classic Aussie chicken dish which you can find in any pub in the country. Typically served with salad and chips, it was originally an eggplant based dish meant for vegetarians. But, over time it evolved into a mouth-watering chicken schnitzel topped with tomato sauce, cheese, and ham.

Oyster Platter

From shucking fresh oysters to trying out Sydney’s famous sushi platter, there is an abundance of seafood in Sydney, which you must try one by one. Australian seafood ranges from peeled prawns, tuna, hand-rolled sushi, cooked bay bugs which you can find anywhere in Sydney.

Oysters

The upside of living in Sydney is that you can order seafood online in Sydney, and it will still be as tasty and fresh as eating in a high-end restaurant. Aussie’s take great care and pride in their fish cooking abilities, and no one likes to be ridiculed over it.

Pavlova

It is a common dish found in Australia and New Zealand, both of which fight for its bragging rights as inventors. It is sort of a cake topped with whipped cream and loaded with fruits. You can find a Pavlova in any nearby bakery or cake shop at a very decent price. One bite out of it and you will fall in love with this delicious dessert.

Beetroot

Australians and beetroot go hand in hand. Where a traditional burger would have a bun, some onion, chopped parsley, a slice of cheese, meat, sliced tomato and some shredded iceberg lettuce leaves, a burger in Australia has one more ingredient: BEETROOT.

European Salad

May it be a salad or a hamburger or any kind of sandwich, expect beetroot to be a part of it. So, it doesn’t matter if you want to try it or not; because eventually you are going to.

Kangaroo Meat

While others see Kangaroos as mere animals bouncing around carrying their babies, in Australia they are common meat to be found in supermarkets and restaurant menus, and IT IS DELICIOUS!

Kangaroo has a lean, healthy red meat, and you can order your burgers, steaks, sausages, and pizzas with Kangaroo meat. With a tasty marinade, it is a must-try food item in Sydney.

Golden Gaytime

Well, as the name suggests, you are going to gay – read happy – after eating this delicious ice-cream. It is toffee, and vanilla flavored dessert dipped in chocolate and topped with crunchy biscuit pieces.

There are so many gelato and ice cream shops in Sydney for you to try on.

You can also try unique flavors like ‘Unicorn’ and ‘Pina Colada’. If you are in Sydney, you must try Golden Gaytime at least once.

Vegemite

Well, this one is a bit controversial food item as it is hated by most foreigners. It is a brown pasty snack made from various vegetables and yeast extract. I know most of you have made up your mind already but assuming it is an acquired taste, you must try this at least once

Australians eat it with anything they can put it on bread, toast, avocados, apples, cheese; you name it!
