Fat Fook Finally Opens in BGC

Fat Fook is a Taiwanese concept that brings authentic cuisine from Taiwan. Rachel Kao, the group’s executive chef, along with the management that operates Ramen Nagi, finally opened the fifth branch in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City. The expansion in the BGC area makes it very accessible to the office personnel in the business district. Other four previously opened branches are located in Metro Manila.

The concept was finalized and refined by Rachel. The recipes are originally from her parents which she later improved for the Filipino market.

Here are some of the highlights of the newly opened restaurant:

  1. It has a take-out counter which is perfect for people on the go.
  2. The dishes are authentic Taiwanese and all ingredients are directly sourced from Taiwan.
  3. You get the value for money as the serving size is perfect for 2-3 persons. If you’re a foodie like me, you can finish it yourself.
  4. Prime location at The Globe Tower, 32nd St., Taguig City.

I had the privilege to try few of the best sellers from the restaurant. Here are my verdict and take on each dishes:

Taiwanese Sausage

Taiwanese Sausage

I started off with Taiwanese Sausage. Well, it was good at first bite but it has a strong garlic taste. I’m really fond of garlicky and salty taste but not in sausages. The serving size for this appetizer is great but a bit expensive in the pocket. I’ll give this one a HIT.

Fried Stinky Tofu

Fried Stinky Tofu

I really have to be honest on this dish. I really love the taste given the foul distinct sharp smell. Each bite will definitely give you a piece of heaven. Just take note that at first, it will not be too palatable. After each bite, you’ll taste more the richness of the tofu. Tip: use the sweet sauce and eat it with the pickled cabbage as it mellows down the  sharp taste. I’ll give this one an ACE.

Tofu with Century Egg & Pork Floss

Tofu with Century Egg & Pork Floss

In contrast with the Fried Stinky Tofu, this dish uses a soft tofu. It is complemented with century egg with sweet & salty sauce topped with a generous amount of pork floss. I’m not really fond of pork floss but I love the consistency of the tofu. The century egg was divine! I love the texture and the taste. I would have given it an ACE but I’m not really a fan of pork floss. I’ll give it a HIT instead.

Oyster Misua

Oyster Misua

If you’re a fan of shellfish, you’ll definitely love the Oyster Misua from Fat Fook. I’m a big fan of oysters so this one definitely captured my heart. They did it right! The soup was coupled with fresh wansoy, garlic and fried shallots to give more flavor to the soup. I’ll give this one an ACE.

Pork Spareribs Radish Soup

Pork Spareribs Radish Soup

I like pork spareribs but not usually in a soup. The ribs are deep fried first then steamed (Taiwanese style) before placing it in chicken broth. Radishes are added to give life to the soup. I’ll give this one a HIT.

Pork Xiao Long Bao

Pork Xiao Long Bao

Who doesn’t love Xiao Long Bao? This broth-filled dumpling is one of the bestsellers in Fat Fook. This dimsum can be enjoyed best with black vinegar and ginger sauce. Rachel Kao also demonstrated the right way to eat Xiao Long Bao.

Here are the simple steps:

  1. Take the Xiao Long Bao and dip it into the sauce.
  2. Put the Xiao Long Bao into your spoon, and poke a hole in the wrapper of the dumpling to release the juices.
  3. Enjoy eating it!

Well, I was expecting too much from their Xiao Long Bao. I’ll still give it a HIT.

I tried another kind of Xiao Long Bao. It’s the truffle one.

Truffle Xiao Long Bao

Truffle Xiao Long Bao

It’s not my favorite variant of Xiao Long Bao but the black vinegar and ginger sauce enhances its flavor. If you love mushrooms, you’ll definitely enjoy this dish. I’ll give this one a HIT.

Rice Topped with Minced Pork and Egg

Rice Topped with Minced Pork and Egg

If you’re a pork belly fan, you’ll love the Rice Topped with Minced Pork and Egg. It is coupled with steamed rice, yellow radish and egg to complete the overall experience. It’s a HIT for me.

Black Pepper Beef

Black Pepper Beef

If you’re a beef lover like me, the Black Pepper Beef is the perfect choice for you. The black pepper sauce coats the beef tenderloin chunks which makes it tastier. During my visit, it was cooked to perfection. I’ll give this one an ACE.

Beef Tendon Hotpot

Beef Tendon Hotpot

This dish is no doubt an ACE for me. It was a bit mild spicy because of the freshly chopped chili. The finely chopped spring onion gave a different color and texture to the dish.

Pork Cua Pao

Pork Cua Pao

Pork belly slices sandwiched with freshly steamed white bun topped with peanuts and pickled mustard leaves. Every bite will leave you hanging. It’s also very filling despite its small size. I’ll give this a HIT.

Kiampong

Kiampong

This is a mushroom topped rice with pork and dried shrimp. I like that the shrimps are crispy which gives a crunchy feeling on each spoonful. I’ll give this one a HIT.

Taiwanese Style Fried Noodles

If you’re noodles addict, you’ll definitely appreciate Taiwanese Style Fried Noodles. No need for viand as it includes vegetables and hefty amounts of stripped stir fried pork. I’ll give this one an ACE.

Taiwanese Style Fried Noodles

Oyster Omelette

I have always loved omelette at any time of the day. Fat Fook’s version include oysters, Taiwan pechay and sweet pepper sauce. It’s fluffy and not oily. It’s very filling on each bite. I’ll give this an ACE.

Oyster Omelette

String Beans with Minced Pork

String Beans with Minced Pork

Stir fried minced pork and string beans are the basic ingredients of this dish. It’s the perfect side for any other Fat Fook favorites. I’ll give this dish a big HIT.

Fried Intestines

Fried Intestines

If you’re the adventurous type, you should give the Fried Intestines a try! It was very crispy. I suggest you use white vinegar with chili as a dip for this street food. This one is a HIT for me.

Fat Fook Chicken Chops

Fat Fook Chicken Chops

If there’s the best dish I tried during my visit, it has to be the Fat Fook Chicken Chops. You’ll be amazed with the “crunchy outside while juicy inside” texture of this dish. It’s also very affordable as you’ll be given a huge serving. It’s basically breaded chicken topped with salt and pepper then fried to perfection. I’ll give this one an ACE.

Taro Milk Tea

If you’re looking for a refreshing drink after your meals, Taro Milk Tea is the best choice. It’s also available at the take out counter. It’s at par with the leading milk tea vendors in the Philippines. Also, the size of each tub is very big. Talk about value for money! This is a HIT for me.

Overall, I’m really satisfied with my gastronomic experience. I even went back to Glorietta branch after few days. The Globe Tower branch is open to serve everyone starting 11 AM – 10 PM. It was definitely a nice experience. To know more about the brand, please check the official social media accounts below:
