Taking proper care of your hair is as important as caring for your skin – especially when you’re constantly on the go. There are many factors that can negatively affect your hair, including exposure to the sun and air conditioning, so keep on reading to learn how to upgrade your hair care routine while traveling. Here are five useful tips on how to make it happen, so check them out and get down to it right away!
Bring only travel-size hair care products
If you often travel by airplane, you must know that small bottles for liquids and gels are more than welcome. This is simply because there are some restrictions on the sizes of bottles you can take on carry-on luggage. Bottles that hold less than 3.4 ounces of liquids and gels are the only ones allowed, which means that you won’t be allowed to bring your favorite hair care products in their original packaging. Instead, buy small plastic bottles that are less than 3.4 ounces and use them to carry your shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask in your carry-on luggage!
Don’t experiment while on the go
When you have limited space in your suitcase, it can be very easy to compromise your everyday hair care routine and opt for complimentary products given by hotels or hostels. Apart from saving space, these will save you some money as well, which makes them beyond amazing, right? Well, the answer is NO, and the reasons for that are more than good. Firstly, you can never know what’s inside those. They may have some harsh ingredients that can ruin your hair by making it extra dry or super oily. If you use them day after day, a few times in a row, you may even experience hair breakage – especially when combined with the sun and salt. Just bring your trusty hair products and you won’t make a mistake!
Use hair extensions for extra volume
If you’re one of those gals who want their hair to be as voluminous and gorgeous as possible – even while on the go – you should definitely opt for hair extensions. These have multiple benefits that mustn’t be overlooked, and the first one is that, depending on the type, you can clip them in on their own, without having to spend hours in a salon. For example, there are fabulous Russian hair extensions that will inevitably add volume and extra oomph to your hair, so check them out and you surely won’t regret it. Remember that taking them off is as simple as clipping them in, which is great when you’re in a rush!
Brush your hair regularly
It can be very easy to skip some of the steps of your hair care routine while you’re on the road, but you know what? You should never forget to brush your hair, as this is essential for your overall hair health. In fact, not brushing your hair regularly can cause a lot of damage as it will leave your tresses all tangled and scruffy. That’s right, and everyone knows that tangled hair is more prone to breakage since knots create weak points. All you have to do is to brush your hair all the way from the scalp to the ends, so that all the little knots are gone. As simple as that!
Protect your hair from the sun
Last but certainly not least, protecting your hair from the sun should be a crucial step you should take while traveling. Firstly, that’s because your hair can overheat and burn – just like your skin when you don’t apply sunscreen. There are many protective sprays with SPF for your hair on the market these days, so make sure to get one to keep your tresses safe. Also, you should wear a hat or a headscarf, as these will create a barrier and protect your hair from the harmful sun’s rays!
As you can see, there are many great hair care tips you should bear in mind while traveling, but these five unquestionably are the best ones out there. So, if taking proper care of your skin is one of your top priorities while on the go, just stick to our tips and you’ll certainly make it happen. Follow our guidelines and you won’t go wrong, that’s a promise!
These are all great tips! I didn’t know there are protective sprays for the hair… I really need to look into that.
These are all excellent tips. I learned early that travel sizes are called that for a reason. It is SO hard to travel with full size bottles. Don’t do it!
These are excellent tips. I travel a lot and agree that it can take a toll on your hair. Not experimenting with new products is something I’ve learned the hard way so it’s great that you included this in your article. Thanks for sharing.
I have always had hard hair to manage. It is so thin and grows so slowly in spite of a great diet. The rest of me is healthy!!! Anyway, I love your ideas and would love to try the extensions, but I fear that people will eventually see my real hair and be horrified, lol.
These are great hair tips! Now if I only had hair, lol. But with that said, I still need to protect my head from the sun. 🙂
what??? i had no idea our hair could burn in the sun and that there are sunscreen sprays for hair. wow.
the treavel sized products tip is a must ! as i can always carry with me products that i love instead of buying something that i dont know if it agrees with my hair while traveling
I have to say that I never thought about my hair and how I could make my hair care routine better. Good advice you gave us thanks for the post.
i used to travel 3 times a month before COVID! I can’t wait to start traveling again and trying all of your tips! These are great 👍
I agree with you. I don’t like to experiment with new stuff when I’m traveling and I always carry a dry shampoo.
I either bring travel size toiletries or I just buy them when I get there. It makes packing and flying so much easier. I also keep my hair routine the same no matter what so my hair doesn’t get all weird.
These are great tips, I especially like the one about bringing only travel sized products- its the smart way to travel.
i have little travel set that i refill so it’s perfect.
I’d say not experimenting while on a trip is super wise! You never know how your hair could react.
I always bring my hair care products with me whenever I travel. Being in a different place is not the time to experiment on shampoo and/or conditioners. Oh, and yes, I always have something to protect my hair from the sun. Either a ball cap or a head scarf.
I definitely agree that you shouldnt experiment while travelling because it could turn out bad and soil your trip. Thanks for these tips. They are really useful.
