Remember the “Locomotion” which was popularized by Kylie Minogue last 1988? Well, I bet you don’t! I guess you’ll remember easily the Loukoumades of Overdoughs, the newest venture of Caravan Food Group headed by Francis Reyes. I was fortunate enough to try it myself. What I like about this Greek doughnuts is that you can easily mix and match it with any dip however I like it with dark chocolate. It has a very crispy crust with cotton like texture inside. It’s best consumed while hot.
This is the perfect movie snack. It is strategically located near the escalator going to cinema. Will this be an alternative to popcorn? You bet! I tried it twice and it was so good. I finished two boxes in one seating!
During my initial visit, Francis explained to me how tedious the Loukoumades and Beignets are made. The staff ensures that it is fried and not baked at a certain temperature and time. This ensures the quality and freshness of their products. You can also see in front of you how they cook it.
Overdoughs also has Beignet (French for fritter). Francis got his inspiration for Beignet during his stint in one of the restaurants at New Orleans. This item was very common in the breakfast menu of majority of the cafe surrounding the area. Their version was really good – cripsy and golden brown in color. It was dusted with powdered sugar and supplied with dips of your choice. I chose toffee because it gives extra sweetness at each bite.
Here’s my score:
ACE: Loukoumades (especially with dark chocolate or milk chocolate dip)
HIT: Beignet (love it with toffee)
MISS: N/A

Mmm…these look so yummy! I like that you can dip it in chocolate too; I’d definitely do that. It would be awesome if the U.S. had something like this in their theaters.
