Recently, I have been looking for a refreshing drink to quench my thirst after tennis practice. Luckily, I have found Lokalitea. It is a local brand focused on using freshly brewed turmeric tea infused with your favorite local flavors such as calamansi, pandan and lemongrass (tanglad).
I had the privilege of having a short exclusive interview with Ferch Reynoso, one of the founders of Lokalitea. Please see the exchange below:
TF: When did Lokalitea started?
LT: It was in October 2014 when we concocted our very first turmeric tea which is calamansi flavored. It was primarily intended solely for family consumption and in Christmas 2014, we gave it out to friends as Christmas gifts, some of them actually suggested that we sell it to be able to share the goodness of turmeric to a lot more people. So in February 2015, we started selling Lokalitea at Mercato Centrale and at the BF Saturday Market, then eventually distribution opportunities opened up for us one after another.
TF: Each bottle cost how much? Do you also have other sizes?
LT: It sells very affordably at 65 pesos per 350ml bottle. We have 1L servings but on order basis.
TF: Apart from lemongrass, calamansi and pandan, do you have any other flavors in development?
LT: We have our seasonal flavor, dalandan which is available from September-February.
TF: Do you have any establishments where you supply your tea?
LT: Currently we are available in the following establishments:
YOGA Studios: Yoga + BGC and Ortigas Branches, Beyond Yoga Greenhills and Rockwell, Yoga Philippines BF Pque
Healthy Local Groceries: Real Food Alabang, Up Market at Makati Place, Alex & Claude at F1 BGC, Clean Plate Artisanal Deli in Tomas Morato, Ultra Super Green Katipunan, Apotheca Makati, Wangwang Fruitmart in QC
Dining Places: Hummus Elijah (Makati Ave), Naan Indian Street Food (Kapitolyo, Pasig), Kaffe Teria (Paragon Plaza, Mandaluyong), 5 &2 Cafe (New LIfe Alabang), Barako Haus (BF Homes, Pque), Daniel’s Choice (Molino, Cavite), Sari Cafe (Dasmarinas, Cavite), Blk Moon Cafe in Baler
Online/Food delivery: www.marketa.ph, @harvest.ph, @theredpantry
TF: Among all the flavors, which one is the best seller?
LT: Our bestsellers are calamansi and lemongrass, although pandan is also a favorite of those with mature and well experienced palettes. What we like about our flavors is that each one has its own character and that we are able to recreate the taste of turmeric in to something that’s friendlier and encouraging to consume 🙂
I really love this tea. I enjoyed it with my friends. If I’m going to rank it, I would give lemongrass and pandan ACES while calamansi is a HIT for me! I encourage everyone to always support our local products!
