Korean Soju has been the alcoholic drink of choice in South Korea, and no brand comes close to Jinro. South Korea’s best-selling soju brand — and the world’s top-selling spirit, Jinro was launched last 1924. By volume, Jinro is the most popular alcoholic beverage according to International Wine and Spirits Research (IWSR).
Soju or often called as Korean vodka, is historically from Korea, where it was first distilled around the 14th century. Compared to vodka, soju has a natural hint of natural ingredients that can make for a smoother taste as opposed to vodka, which can sometimes come off as bitter and strong at the end. Soju is much lower in calorie content and lower in proof compared to your traditional vodka.
Koreans often drink soju during meals, and it fascinates me that they also have flavored soju to cater to millennials and younger generation.
I had the privilege of trying several variants of Jinro Chamisul Soju. Check out my review below:
Chamisul has moderate weight on the palate, warming your mouth with the heat of the alcohol that is smooth out and passed out by a sweet and gentle creaminess from tapioca. It also has a very distinct floral alcohol smell. Did you know that Jinro Chamisul Original passes through a patented bamboo charcoal filtration process 4 times, getting rid of hangover-causing compounds? This drink has a higher alcohol content (20.1% ABV) than the regular soju, making it the preferred drink of those who enjoy an authentic and rich Jinro Soju experience. This is a HIT for me.
In contrast, Jinro Chamisul Fresh remains to be the number 1 spirit brand in the world especially in South Korea. Hangover-causing substances are removed through a patented 7-step refinement process using active bamboo charcoal, resulting in a fresh drink that allows you to feel lucid and prepared the next day. It has a very smooth taste and it resembles vodka in a lot of ways. Although it is much lower in alcohol content (16.9% ABV), it has a much more complete and refreshing taste. I’ll give this one an ACE.
Jinro Grapefruit contains 13% alcohol content. It’s the classic Jinro soju infused with grapefruit. If you like a soju with a refreshing tangy taste, this is the flavor for you. I’ll give this one a HIT.
Jinro Green Grape Soju continues to be a fan favorite (including myself) due to its distinct appetizing and sweet taste. It’s a unique drink that can be enjoyed on its own or added in your own mocktails or pre-mixed cocktails. This one is an ACE for me.
Jinro is also available in plum and strawberry flavors. Both give a clean and light taste while maintaining its flavor profile. Both are instant HITS for me.

My first to hear of these. The process of making them is amazing, right?!! I’m glad you alluded to it. I’ve seen how extensive the process can be.
