Bruges (Brugge) is the capital city of West Flanders (part of the Flemish region in Belgium). It is predominantly Dutch (Flemish colloquially) speaking region. It is also called as the Venice of the North. The historic city center is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. It also seats the College of Europe which is an elite institution for European studies. My visit to Bruges is part of my second European trip this year.
So what did I do in Bruges? Check out the photos below:
It all started with a train ride. Of course, I wouldn’t miss having my train selfie. I love the weather in Europe in general. It brings out the glow in my skin. How I wish it’s always like this.
There’s so much to see in Bruges. From museums, to cafe and to Churches. You name it, the city has it!
I had a stopover in Chips&Ice. It’s a Belgian cafe that serves one of the best hot Belgian fries and special waffles.
I started off with Hot Belgian Chocolate. It was so good. I paired it with Lotus Biscoff. It’s the perfect drink for a cold winter day. It did not stop me from having a large serving of Belgian Fries. Did you know that French fries originated in Belgium and not in France?
I then ordered Gaufre de Bruxelles for dessert. I love strawberries so I decided to use that as topping. The waffle is crispy and not oily. It was properly dusted with sugar. I would have wanted it with whipped cream but it’s too much sugar for me!
I visited Sint-Salvatorskathedraal & Schatkamer. It was a very nice Cathedral. I have visited other Churches too but this one stood out the most for me.
There are different Christmas Markets in Brugges. I did some window shopping. Too bad it was raining. I could have explored more.
You can also be a king or queen for a day in Historium Brugge. Who sits in the iron throne? Hmmm… well it’s me!
If you’re adventurous enough, you can also try the Torture Museum Oude Steen.
Just by walking in Bruges, it makes me beam with a huge smile. It’s a very serene place and it’s a perfect place for a date in my opinion. It’s also a good place for families and friends.

I’ll definitely go back to Bruges. It’s one of my favorite cities in Europe and it’s definitely blog worthy!

I was just wondering if you were going to be the father of dragons as well as all of your other titles. I just couldn’t be sure. Looks like there are a ton of things to do there and I love all of the churches. Although I definitely could not miss out on the hot chocolate or the Belgian waffles.
That was funny! Yes! I can be the Father of Dragons too (Game of Thrones inspired). The hot chocolate was the best on a very cold winter day!
Belfort tower sounds like a cool place to visit. I hope to get to Bruges someday!

I just love it here! I lived in Belgium for 3 years, and my parents brought me to this town. I didn’t appreciate it fully then, so I hope to go back one day. I miss the waffles!

I have been to Brugge and it is one of the best places in Belgium. The city is traditional yet inspiring for any visitor to spend time and learn about the Belgium culture.

I went to Bruges years ago and absolutely loved it. The market square was awesome and we had a horse and carriage ride that was just magical!

I went to Brugge and Gent in Belgium for Christmas and totally loved it. The lights and food was lovely… especially the chocolates. I went to a place that served the best steaks. Fab holiday
Brugge is on my bucket list. (I know I keep saying this, but really all of Europe is on my bucket list, LOL!) It looks like it was beautiful and you were brave to go in winter! How did you like the train ride? It looks like it was a nice train?
One has to stop for Belgian Hot Chocolate while in the country, right? Your hot chocolate looks so delicious. I want a cup of it even though it’s summer now in the U.S. Haha… The waffle looks delicious, too. If I was there, I would like to order one with Nutella topping. 🙂 While in Belgium, it’s all about chocolate. Theirs are the best!

I’ve seen the movie “In Bruges” and I’m completely mesmerized by the place. You are so lucky to have visited it.
Chocolate, waffles, and beer- those are the food/drink items I think about when I think of Belgium. Bruges has much to offer for foodies, that I am certain.
This makes me want to travel more, outside of our country. Hopefully we can do that next year.
I visited Bruges a long time ago with my mum and it is such a charming place perfect for mooching around the quaint streets and enjoying some moules frites and hot chocolate!

I also visited Bruges in winter – but it was less cold than when you were there. However, isn’t it great that all the Belgian classics such as cocoa and waffles are made for cold weather ;-)?
